A more in-depth view

I am a Yoga Teacher, Doula and Birthing from Within™ Mentor who is dedicated to the support of families through the tremendous transition of birth and postpartum. I began my involvement in birth-related work in 2005, while living as an actor in New York City. Curiosity lead me to a doula training seminar where I was so touched by the nature of the weekend, I began volunteering as a doula, focusing on natural birth and eventually completed my certification in 2006.

As I continued down the path of support, I stumbled upon the "Birthing from Within™"community. It was with this influence that I found my true calling as a mentor and support person and where the gifts of this work resonate for me.  This journey has been rooted in compassion as I have developed relationships, understanding and openness that reflect all types of birth and personal birth wishes. There is no one-way to give birth and there is no way to know how an individual birth story will unfold.  It is my aim to help cultivate the awareness and confidence to move through the experience of birth and postpartum with a greater connection to what is important to you and your own set of life experiences. Part of what has made this work so meaningful for me, is the always unfolding discoveries made when the focus is on what matters to you,  what is driving you, what are your specific desires, strengths and weaknesses and what do YOU need to know to give birth?

My experience as a Yoga teacher has allowed me to foster a deep curiosity toward mindfulness, toward quietness, toward intuition.  A consistent yoga practice has been one of the strongest influences and catalysts for growth in my life.  The awareness of physical, emotional and mental patterns that reveal themselves while practicing are the very gifts that allow further clarity in all moments of life.  Where does your mind go when you are challenged? What happens to your body when you doubt?  What flows in your emotions when you hit a wall?  These are the clues for how you live your life-not just in a one-hour class-but your entire life.  All of these insights have greatly influenced my work with pregnant and postpartum families as they are phenomenal tools to cultivate for managing labor, birth, parenthood and a lifetime of being human.

I completed my 200-hour Yoga Alliance certified program at the Yandara Yoga Institute in Baja, Mexico and have studied pre/postnatal yoga at Yoga Works in New York City.  I completed my Birth Doula certification through Doulas of North America (DONA) and am a Birthing from Within™ Mentor offering childbirth preparation classes. I also hold a Bachelors Degree in Performing Arts from the University of California at Santa Cruz and attended a classical acting conservatory in New York City.

As a teacher, labor attendant and artist I provide physical, emotional and informational support to promote a healthy practice and lifestyle.
